Waiting for the Giro d’Italia 2020 and all the official competitions being suspended due to Covid-19, the Bardiani CSF Faizanè team is preparing to participate in the first Giro d’Italia Virtual by Enel, organized by RCS Sport in collaboration with Garmin.

The Giro Virtual will develop in 7 stages, with two appointments per week, starting from Saturday 18 April. Two athletes per team, who can be replaced at each stage and a great beneficial goal, that of raising funds for the Italian Red Cross to support the Covid-19 emergency.

Agency chiefs issue joint call to keep food trade flowing in response to COVID-19

The heads of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a joint statement on 31 March calling on governments to minimise the impact of COVID-19 related border restrictions on trade in food. “Now is the time to show solidarity, act responsibly and adhere to our common goal of enhancing food security, food safety and nutrition and improving the general welfare of people around the world,” the agency heads said.

Myanmar queried on import licensing requirements for agricultural products

Myanmar was questioned about its import licensing requirements on agricultural products at the meeting of the Committee on Import Licensing on 4 October. In addition to this new trade concern, WTO members reiterated concerns over a number of issues previously raised, such as China’s import ban on solid waste, India’s quantitative restrictions on pulses, Brazil’s import licensing on nitrocellulose and Thailand’s import restriction on feed wheat.

China initiates WTO dispute against additional US duties on Chinese imports

China has requested WTO dispute consultations with the United States concerning additional duties imposed by the United States on imports of Chinese goods that took effect on 1 September. The request was circulated to WTO members on 4 September.

Agriculture committee reviews members’ policies, conducts annual review of Nairobi decision

At a meeting of the WTO’s Committee on Agriculture on 25-26 June, WTO members raised questions regarding each other’s agriculture policies and conducted their annual examination of the implementation of the Nairobi decision on export competition. They also continued discussions on the draft Bali TRQ (tariff rate quota) Review report. The new chair, Ms Christiane Daleiden Distefano from Luxembourg, presided over the two-day meeting.

Members target June for finalizing quota review, examine farm policies of EU, China, India

At a meeting of the Committee on Agriculture on 26-27 February, WTO members agreed to finalize by June a report containing recommendations on the operation of the 2013 Bali Ministerial Decision on Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) Administration. This would enable the General Council to take a decision on the recommendations no later than 31 December 2019, a mandate set out in the Bali Decision. Members further reviewed each other’s agriculture policies, including the EU’s post-Brexit TRQ plan, China’s agriculture support measures and India’s domestic support for pulses.

United Arab Emirates requests consultations with Qatar on goods restrictions

The United Arab Emirates has requested WTO dispute consultations with Qatar regarding certain measures restricting the import, distribution and sale of goods in Qatar from the UAE (DS576). The request was circulated to WTO members on 31 January.
